Now in its 30th year of operation, JYOTI Natural Foods (JYOTI) has been a pioneer in the natural foods industry, introducing Indian foods to the U.S. market well before “basmati rice” became a household name.

Today JYOTI meets the ever-increasing demand for authentic Indian food and supplies by distributing our product line in supermarkets, specialty and ethnic foods stores, natural food stores, and directly to the consumer via the Web. You may also have sampled JYOTI products on an airline journey, as we produce in-flight vegetarian meals for numerous airlines, including: Continental, United, British Airways, Delta/Northwest, Quatar, Singapore, and Air France, who have selected JYOTI to satisfy their passengers’ discriminating palates.

JYOTI Cuisine India was launched by Jyoti Gupta in 1979 as a mail-order operation, in response to the need she perceived for high-quality and healthy prepared Indian foods in the U.S. Equipped with a graduate degree in Nutrition, Jyoti originally set out to cater to the growing Indian community in the U.S., who longed for the flavors of their homeland but faced the obstacles of inaccessible ingredients and a lack of time to produce the labor-intensive dishes. Furthermore, these Indian expats were highly health conscious and required Indian cuisine that was not only authentic in taste, but also healthy in its preparation. In response, Jyoti developed vegetarian recipes that used only fresh ingredients, limited fat and salt quantities, and involved no preservatives. These products were made available to the marketplace as canned heat-and-serve products and were among the first Indian products that were available nationally in the U.S.

Coinciding with the introduction of JYOTI products was the growing American intrigue with the tantalizing tastes of India. To meet unexpectedly high demand for her products, Jyoti expanded her business from a strictly mail order operation to include distribution in major US stores, including Marshall Fields, Jamail's, and Whole Foods.

Today you can purchase JYOTI products in shelf stable, lead free, recyclable cans and in convenient foil pouches requiring no refrigeration. JYOTI foods continue to remain gluten-free and contain no preservatives. A number of our products are Halal-certified and we offer quite a few dairy-free options. We have also expanded our product line to include spices, condiments and serving accessories – everything you need to prepare an authentic Indian meal in your own kitchen!
